The Academic College of Tel Aviv-Yaffo celebrated 25 years of social change

At the height of the event, Mayor Huldai congratulated the college for remarkable achievements in the social change arena. Mr. Huldai, a key partner of MTA, told the audience of how it all begun, and the idea behind MTAs' establishment in Jaffa, "the social influence of the college in Jaffa is far beyond the work of the students or the professors or of others who make it as a mission within the community, because when I saw the bulletin board - after the first building of behavioral sciences was opened - I saw a small handwritten sign saying a student is looking for roommate in Jaffa. At that moment I knew that we had won. Since then, the college and Jaffa have been flourishing together and the work is wonderful and I see it and appreciate it and I wish the college will continue to flourish and do more social work in Jaffa.”

The various event attractions included a display by our long time partner established first at MTA - the "Educating for Excellence" NGO; TED lectures where conducted by students who are leading social change; a vision wall in cooperation with the Benjamin De-Rothschild Ambassadors Program; an "Art Meets Community" exhibition; and an information session on the prevention of online violence, led by members of the Safe Future NGO were conducted.

At the main event, MTA president Prof. Shlomo Bideman, awarded honorary certificate and scholarships to ten elected students for outstanding social achievements for their activities bettering the society and creating social change in varied fields in the Jaffa community and beyond.

In addition, a panel was held on the role of academia as a catalyst for social change, moderated by MTA’s Vice President for External Relations, Liat Weiss Shahaf. Panel members included Ruti Anzel, Director of the Division of Secondary Education and Advancement of Children and Youth at the Tel Aviv-Jaffa Municipality; Dr. Tzafrir Bloch, Senior Lecturer at the MTA School of Management and Economics and co-founder of WECONOMIZE; David Ben-Zohar (Benzi), Director of the Ironi Ziv High School in Jaffa; Hanna Dorsmann, Director of Educating for Excellence; Kamila Milner-Landskind, Director of Made in Israel; Hulud Ayutti, co-CEO of Presentencse and a graduate of MTA’s School of Government and Society; Prof. Samar Halbi, Senior Lecturer at MTA’s School of Behavioral Sciences; and Yossi Sabag, coordinator of the social community and preparatory program budgeting in the Planning and Budgeting Committee of the Council for Higher Education.
