The Research Institute of Municipal Corporations

The Research Institute of Municipal Corporations was established by the Academic College of Tel Aviv-Yaffo, in 2020, as a national center of knowledge and research aimed at improving Israeli municipal and governmental policies in the field of municipal corporations. The Institute functions as a hub of cooperation between all relevant parties, including government ministries, local and international academic institutions, and Israel’s civil society and business sector. Municipal corporations existed even before the establishment of the State of Israel, with hundreds of municipal corporations currently operating in various fields, seeking to implement a diverse range of projects in the various local authorities. However, despite the great importance attributed to their activities, the municipal corporations have not been regulated by law, and their nickname, “the neglected child of public law”, is indicative of the urgent need to rectify the situation. The Research Institute of Municipal Corporations intends, among other goals, to fill this gap, through a holistic view that combines advancing research and activities concerning various issues in the field, which will form a solid basis for the administrative and legal regulation of municipal corporations, and developing action strategies for municipal corporations in a manner that advances the public interest.
