The Israeli Youth Studies Community
Youth, Research & Practice

The Israeli Youth Studies Community was founded in 2020 by Dr. Roni Eyal-Lubling in an aim to create a scholarly-professional community for academics and practitioners dedicated to research and work with young people aged 18-35 in Israel. The community strives to facilitate the development of the youth studies discourse in Israel and to analyse the unique characteristics of youth and young adulthood in relation to other periods in the life course, in relation to various historic periods, and in relation to other identity categories such as gender, physical ability, class and so on. The community is in practice a network for researchers and practitioners from different disciplines and professional perspectives which aims to facilitate a cross-fertilization of ideas and collaboration between its members and with fellow youth scholar around the world.

Since its establishment, the community has held various events such as symposiums in the annual Israeli Sociological Association Conference, Seminar talks held with leading scholars in the field from both Israel and abroad; and periodic meet-ups where members shared work in progress and received feedback from fellow scholars.

In 2022 the  bi-monthly newsletter ‘Up to 35’ (In Hebrew: עד 35) was launched consisting of information about events in the field of youth studies in Israel and abroad, as well as articles and other achievements by community members. The community currently consists of 98 members in different seniority statuses, most have PhD’s, few are senior professors, and some are master’s students. Members also include practitioners and senior leaders working in the field of youth.
