Short Bio

Dr. Kaplan (Ph.D. Tel Aviv University, 2010) is a sociologist, a senior lecturer, and the Head of The Family Studies Masters Program in the School of Government and Society, The Academic College of Tel Aviv-Yaffo.

Her principal research interest lies in a comparative look at the diverse intersections between family life, gender, inequality, and policy. Publications on these topics have appeared in journals such as the Gender & Society, Gender, Work & Organization, European Journal of Population, Human Reproduction, Advances in Life Course Research, Culture, Health, & Sexuality, Journal of Family Issues, Social Science Research and Demographic Research. Recently, she co-edited (with Prof. Hanna Herzog, Tel Aviv University) a special issue in Israeli Sociology dedicated to the topic of “Invisible Work”.

She received two competitive large grants supporting her research projects:

  •  A grant from the Israeli Science Foundation (ISF, 2019-2022) on the subject of “Parental divorce or loss, adolescent employment, and later life outcomes” (together with Dr. Anat Herbst-Debby, Bar-Ilan University)

  •  A grant from the Science, Technology, and Space Ministry (2016-2019), on the subject of “Making women’s invisible work visible: Removing hidden barriers to the equitable incorporation of Israeli women into the labor market” (together with Hadass Ben Eliyahu, Van Leer Institute; and Prof. Hanna Herzog, Tel Aviv University).
